Men’s Tennis Falls to Drexel, Splits Doubleheader with Navy to Begin Spring Break

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team rounded out a weekend of competition, dropping a tough battle to Drexel, 4-0 on Saturday, and splitting a doubleheader against Navy on Sunday, taking game one 4-1, and dropping game two 4-3.

Against Drexel, the Spiders dropped the three doubles matches as Daniel Kliebhan and Paxton Pritchard fell 7-5 on court one, and Cole Brashear/Davis Wiley and Sebastian Miano/Dylan Atkinson dropped their matches on courts two and three, respectively.

In singles, three matches were left unfinished on courts two, five and six while Kliebhan dropped his match on court one, 6-2, 7-5 against Alan (DRX) and Wiley fell 6-3, 7(7)-6(2) against De Sousa (DRX). Miano rounded out the match on court four, dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Burridge (DRX) as the Dragons took the match 4-0.

Richmond got back to winning fashion in game one against Navy, 4-1. Despite Navy clinching the doubles point, Pritchard was able to handle business on court two, 6-4, 6-2 over Nguyen (NAVY) and Miano downed Young (NAVY) 6-4, 6-2 on court four. Atkinson picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kim (NAVY) 6-2, 6-1 before Taranov gave UR the win with a 6-0, 6-4 rout over T. Kim (NAVY) on singles court six.

In game two, the opposition again clinched the doubles point despite Nick Roddy and Grant Cohen picking up a 6-0 win on court three. In singles, Kliebhan defeated Sasha (NAVY), 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and Atkinson and Brashear won their matches 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2 on court five and six, respectively. Navy picked up wins on court two, three and four for the 4-3 win.

Following the weekend, the Spiders moved to 9-3 overall on the season. The team will be back in action on March 20 at Liberty before a pair of matches in Wilmington, N.C. on March 23 and 24.
