Spider Performance: Academic Success

Academic excellence is a fundamental priority for all students at the University of Richmond. Here’s how Spider Performance works to provide our student-athletes with everything they need to achieve scholastic success.
Academic Support: Richmond features small class sizes and an unrivaled faculty dedicated to student success. Athletics goes beyond that, offering Spiders access to professional tutors and customized support to ensure that student-athletes flourish in a Division I environment.
Advising: From the moment a Spider arrives on campus, our academic advisors offer a personalized academic plan, including instruction on time management and study strategy, mentorship, writing support, course selection guidance, and more. Student-athletes may also participate in the Bridge to Success summer program, which offers introductions to fellow students and additional campus resources prior to the start of freshman year.
Career Exploration: Student-athletes receive direct access to career counselors and advisors who will help determine an academic program that aligns with their professional goals.
Co-curricular Support: Most Richmond students take part in research or perform work in labs, and our Spider athletes are no different. Richmond advisors help ensure student-athletes get the same opportunities to pursue their interests and advance towards their degree.
Study Abroad: At Richmond, all students are encouraged to participate in study abroad or travel related to their interests. Athletics offers Cultural Immersion programs that provide athletes an opportunity to travel internationally. Our staff works through the scheduling and logistical challenges to ensure athletes can succeed in their sport and still take advantage of these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

The best part about being a Spider student-athlete is the access to resources. It’s nice to have people I can go to when I’m not sure how to navigate school, athletics, or even my personal life.Cole Brashear, Spider Men's Tennis
