Spider Men’s Tennis Opens Fall 2026 Schedule Friday

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond men's tennis team opens the squad's 2026 fall slate this weekend. The reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Champions will compete in five tournaments, including the Spiders home event, the River City Tennis Open.
Richmond will head to Lynchburg to participate in the Liberty Hidden Dual, with matches beginning Friday, Sept. 25 and run through Sunday, Sept. 27.
The Spiders kick off October action by hosting the ninth annual River City Tennis Open at the Westhampton Tennis Facility Friday October 2 through Sunday, October 4. Matches will begin at 9 AM each day. Richmond will also have some competitors head to Davidson, NC for the Atlantic 10 Qualifier, Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, October 4.
UR will head to Blacksburg for the ITA Atlantic Regionals Oct. 7-12 before closing out the fall schedule at the Tribe Fall Invite Nov. 6-8 in Williamsburg, Va., hosted by William & Mary.
The squad returns seven student-athletes from the 2026 title squad, including five of six starters, that defeated VCU for the first time in 35 years as well as earn an NCAA Tournament berth. Cole Brashear, A10 All-Conference First team and All-Academic honoree, turned in one of Richmond's strongest all-around seasons in spring 2026. He finished 12-4 in singles play at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions and 17-5 in No. 1 doubles with Davis Wiley. Brashear also clinched the A10 semifinal victory over VCU and the A10 Championship win over Dayton.
A10 All-Conference Second Team honorees Charlie Burdell and Paxton Pritchard also return for the Spiders. Burdell went 13-8 in singles play, primarily at the No. 2 spot in the line-up and turned in a 13-6 doubles record across multiple pairings. Pritchard went 9-8 at No. 3 singles, including a four-match win streak to close out the season and help power UR's late-season run entering postseason action.
UR has added three new faces to the squad with freshmen Patrick Kenny and Charlie Schlenker and graduate student Adreas Chapidas. Kenny, a native of New York, and Schlenker, a native of Massachusetts, both bring a competitive energy to continue to push the Spiders to improve. Chapidas, a native of Limassol, Cyprus, completed his undergrad playing days at NCAA Division II Denison University.
