Spiders Pick Up Road Sweep At Howard, 7-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep on the road at Howard Saturday at the Banneker Recreation Center.
The Spiders won the doubles point after winning the first two doubles matches. Freshman Campbell Erwin (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Klein Evans (Raleigh, N.C.) didn't drop a game in a 6-0 win against DeVaughn Blackburn and Kyle Martin at No. 3 doubles.
Richmond clinched the doubles point after junior George Lovitt (Marvin, N.C.) and freshman John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) won against Cole Gittens and Sagar Raju, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) and junior Matt Fernandez (Richmond, Va.) went unfinished against Karim Shokeir and Roger Lyn at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Walsh earned a straight-sets win against Martin, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Keitelman won against Raju, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 singles. Sophomore Joe Nardini (Arlington, Va.) defeated Blackburn, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
Senior Brice Polender (Lake Bluff, Ill.) won at No. 2 singles against Gittens, 6-3, 6-2. Fernandez cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win against Lyn. At No. 3 singles, Lovitt gave the Spiders a clean sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Shokeir.
Richmond (13-5) will continue their road trip with a key Atlantic 10 match against George Washington on Sunday, April 14, at 2:30 p.m.
