
Richmond Knocks Off A-10 Foe George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team won the doubles point and four singles wins Sunday on the road at George Washington to improve to 4-1 against Atlantic 10 opponents.
The Spiders won the doubles point after winning the first two doubles matches. Freshman Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) and junior Matt Fernandez (Richmond, Va.) won 6-2 against Zicheng Zeng and Ben Barnett at No. 1 doubles.
Richmond clinched the doubles point after junior George Lovitt (Marvin, N.C.) and freshman John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) earned a close 6-4 win against Jakub Behun and Lawrence Sciglitano at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles, freshman Campbell Erwin (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Klein Evans (Raleigh, N.C.) were down 5-6 against Hanyu Liu and Ryan Navarro when the point was clinched.
In singles, Lovitt won in straight sets against Behun, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. At No. 1 singles, Fernandez lost to Zeng, 6-3, 7-5.
The Spiders got another win from Walsh at No. 3 singles against Barnett, 7-5, 6-3. Erwin clinched the win with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win against Dennis Afanasev at No. 5 singles. Evans fell short in the third set against Navarro, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore Joe Nardini (Arlington, Va.) picked up the fifth point for Richmond with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win in the third set against Sciglitano at No. 6 singles.
Richmond (14-5, 4-1 A-10 ) will finish the regular season with a doubleheader starting with Southern Virginia on Friday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m. The Spiders will face George Mason in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Westhampton Tennis Courts.
