RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team dominated Randolph-Macon with a 7-0 sweep Friday afternoon at the Westhampton Tennis Complex for the team's home opener. With the win, the Spiders improved to an even 5-5 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-5.
How it Happened
Richmond came out strong in doubles play, securing the opening point with three-straight victories. On court one, Dylan Atkinson and Otto Sewell took down Crotts and Palmer (RMC) 6-1. The Spiders clinched the doubles point on court two, where Zach Portnoy and Mark Taranov blanked Holzmacher and Chapman (RMC) 6-0. Richmond then completed the sweep on court three as Grant Cohen and Sam Rathmanner cruised past Geyne and Hales (RMC) 6-0.
In singles action, Richmond continued its dominance, winning all six matches in straight sets. On court one, Atkinson rolled past Crotts (RMC) 6-1, 6-0, while Sewell delivered a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Palmer (RMC) on court two. Rathmanner, Portnoy, and Cohen followed suit with commanding 6-0, 6-0 wins on courts three, four and six, respectively. Taranov closed out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Geyne (RMC) on court five.
