Spider Baseball Sweeps Revolutionaries to Close Home Slate

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team captured an Atlantic 10 Conference series sweep of the George Washington University Revolutionaries Sunday with a 13-1 victory in seven innings at Pitt Field. This was the Spiders second conference series sweep of the season and third overall.
Richmond, now 30-21 on the season and 17-10 in league play, wraps up non-conference midweek action Tuesday, traveling to No. 23 Virginia. First pitch at Davenport Field at Disharoon Park is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed on ACCNX.
The Spiders were powered on the mound by Jackson Hinchliffe. He tossed six scoreless frames, allowing the first of four hits in the third. Hinchliffe allowed a solo home run in the seventh, struck out five and hit one GW batter. He was lifted with two outs in the seventh for graduating senior Kellen Heney, who got the pop-up to end the game.
UR made a statement early and often at the plate. In the first inning, the Spiders posted five runs on four hits. RJ Johnson Jr. got the Spiders on the board with a base hit to score Evan Wilson. RJ Rickabaugh hit a three-run home run over the centerfield wall and as followed by Ryan Recio's solo blast that landed in the trees beyond the left field wall.
In the second inning, Wilson stole third then scored on a GW miscue when the catcher threw down to second trying to throw out Michael Elko on the double steal attempt. Elko took third on a wild pitch before scoring on Dylan Winebrenner's base it to give UR a 7-0 lead.
Aidan O'Keefe launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, scoring Ryan Recio who reached with his second of three hits in the game.
Elko pushed in Wilson in the fourth with a triple to right center, then scored on Winebrenner's base hit to left center. Recio picked up Winebrenner with a double down the left field line for his second RBI of the game and give UR a 12-0 lead.
With two outs in the sixth, O'Keefe, Trevor Dosenbach and Noah Haught strung together three straight base hits. O'Keefe scored from second on Haught's base hit to left center and score the Spiders 13th run.
