Spider Baseball Falls to Fordham in Series Opener

Richmond, now 11-11 on the year and 0-4 in league play, and Fordham, 10-10 and 3-1, will match-up again Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest at Houlihan Park. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
UR starter Chase Topolski kept the Rams off the board for eight outs, but the Rams tagged him for two runs in the third to take the lead. Fordham added two more runs off him in with two outs in the fourth. Topolski allowed four runs on four hits, three walks and collected four strikeouts over four innings of work.
Dylan Winebrenner launched his seventh home run with two outs in the top of the fifth, pushing in Evan Wilson who reached on a fielder's choice to collect RBI 16 and 17 on the season.
The Rams picked up runs off Spider relievers Angel Santiago-Cruz in the fifth and Glenn Smith in the sixth and seventh innings. Santiago-Cruz allowed one run on one hit, a walk and a strikeout in an inning of work. Smith got tagged three runs on five hits and two walks in two innings of work. Paul Witkop tossed a scoreless eighth with a walk.
In the top of the ninth, Wilson collected his third hit of the day with a two-run home run, his second of the year, to right center to make it 8-4. Reid Downs, who drew a walk to lead off the inning, scored on the home run.
