Spider Baseball Falls to No. 14 NC State

Richmond, now 5-4 on the season, returns to Pitt Field Friday to kick off a 12-game home stand hosting Cornell. First pitch of the series opener is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Wolfpack (6-1) jumped on Richmond starter Jackson Hinchliffe, tagging him for six runs, five earned, on five hits, a walk and a strikeout in two innings of work.
Evan Wilson, in his first start as the designated hitter, broke up the perfect game in the third inning when he reached on a Wolfpack error. He made it to third on a ground out and a wild pitch but was stranded.
Dylan Winebrenner broke up the no-hitter an inning later with a base hit to center. Ryan Recio drew a two-out walk, but both runners were left on base.
Wilson led off the fifth with a walk but was erased on a line-out double play to the first baseman. Joe Crensaw was the Spiders fourth batter to reach in the eight on a pinch hit walk to lead off the frame.
Six more Spider pitchers saw action against NC State batters. In his third appearance out of the bullpen Dom Ruggiero held NC State off the board for one and a third of an inning for his longest outing, allowing one hit and striking out one. He retired the side in order in the fifth.
Chase Lawley made his Spider debut on the mound in the sixth. Lawley allowed four runs on four hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. Paul Witkop made his season debut in the eighth, scattering four runs on six hits. Aaron Van Tuyle tossed a scoreless ninth, striking out two.
