
Spiders Drop A-10 Opener at VCU Sunday Afternoon

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a tough 7-0 loss against cross-town rival VCU on Sunday at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. With the setback, the Spiders fell to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in A-10 play while the Rams improved to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the A-10.
How it Happened
VCU claimed the doubles point to open the match by winning two of the three matches. On court one, Samofalov/Bouchet (VCU) defeated Davis Wiley and Cole Brashear, 6-2, to give the Rams the early advantage. Richmond responded on court two, as Sam Rathmanner and Paxton Pritchard earned a 6-4 win over Mantach/Consonni (VCU). Mnatsakanyan/Zaorski (VCU) secured the doubles point for the Rams with a 6-3 victory against Spider duo Dylan Atkinson and Otto Sewell on court three.
In singles play, VCU managed a six-match sweep. On court one, Samofalov (VCU) secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Davis Wiley. Consonni (VCU) battled past Paxton Pritchard on court two, earning a tight 6-4, 7-5 victory. Bouchet (VCU) followed on court three with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Otto Sewell while on court four, Zaorski (VCU) earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cole Brashear. Mnatsakanyan (VCU) won a close battle on court five against Zach Portnoy 7-5, 7-5. The match concluded with Mantach (VCU) clinching a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sam Rathmanner on court six.
