No. 19 Women’s Lacrosse Cruise Past Queens

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond's women's lacrosse team won 15-8 in its home opener against the Royals of Queens University today at Robins Stadium. This win marks the sixth straight home opener victory dating back to 2020.
With the win, the Spiders improve to 2-0. Meanwhile, Queens falls to 0-2 after losing to East Carolina, 12-8, last weekend.
Junior Alexis Morton led Richmond with six points on four goals and two assists. Senior Colleen Quinn earned a hat trick and tallied two assists, and junior Juliana Stanley netted two goals and one assist. Senior Grace Muldoon, sophomores Bridget Lonsinger and Amadi Higgins scored a goal. Freshmen Stella Axe, Keating Hopkins and Anya Wardle each netted their first collegiate goal.
Defensively, senior Meaghan Trainer led the team with three caused turnovers. Senior Caroline Murphy collected four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Clare McCooe snagged five draw controls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Francioli earned the win, collecting seven saves in 45 minutes of play. Freshman Maggie Mullen made her collegiate debut, tallying a save while playing 15 minutes between the pipes.
The Spiders were quick to score, netting four straight goals from Axe, Hopkins, Quinn and Morton, 4-0. The Royals broke up the Spiders' pace with a goal with a minute left in the first quarter, 4-1. Richmond rounded out the opening quarter with back-to-back goals by Morton, 6-1.
In the second quarter, Lonsinger put one past the keeper to extend the lead to six, 7-1. Going back and forth, the Royals scored two more goals, 8-3. Richmond tallied two more goals heading into halftime, 10-3.
In the third quarter, Richmond shut out Queens and saw three goals from Stanley, Morton and Quinn to initiate the running clock, 13-3. In the last frame of the game, the Royals scored four straight goals, 13-7. With two goals by Wardle and Higgins, the Spiders extended the lead to seven, 15-7. Although Queens scored, Richmond sealed the 15-8 victory in the home opener.
Next week, the Spiders will welcome Navy to Robins Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 19, for a 2 p.m. draw.
