
Spiders Take One of Two in West Point Doubleheader

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team split a doubleheader Sunday, defeating Marist 4-0 before falling 4-2 to Hofstra to move to 2-3 on the season. Dylan Atkinson shined in singles play, notching two straight wins for the Spiders on court two and three, respectively.
How it Happened
In the opening match, Richmond dominated Marist with a 4-0 sweep. The Spiders secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. The Spider duo of Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley earned a 6-4 win over Suhanitski/Layton (Marist) on court one, while Paxton Pritchard and Otto Sewell claimed a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5) victory on court two. Richmond carried the momentum into singles play, with straight set wins from Davis Wiley, Atkinson and Cole Brashear to clinch the match.
In the afternoon match, Richmond fell to Hofstra 4-2. The Pride secured the doubles with wins on court two and three while Brashear and Wiley picked up a 6-4 win on court one over Michaels/Forste-Dinell (Hofstra). Atkinson picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, and Zach Portnoy secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 6. However, Hofstra battled back with wins on courts one, three and five, and an unfinished match on court four secured the win for the Pride, 4-2.
