Spiders Win Toe-to-Toe Match Versus Davidson at Home Sunday Afternoon

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team picked up a hard-fought win against Davidson Sunday, 4-3, at the Westhampton Tennis Complex following a doubles sweep and three singles wins. With the victory, the Spiders improved to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference action while the Wildcats fell to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in the A-10.

How it Happened
The Spiders cruised through doubles action, as Richmond duo Carly Cohen and Lainey O'Neil picked up a 6-0 win over Kollock/Langford (DAV) on court three and Andrea Campodonico and Claire Le Du picked up a 6-2 win over Patel/Porges (DAV) on court one. Richmond concluded the doubles sweep as Lara Bakhaya and Polina Shitikova won 6-4 on court two over Heiderscheit/Hooper (DAV).

The Wildcats quickly tied the game at 1-1 with a singles win on court two. Shitikova put UR back ahead with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Calderwood (DAV) and Bakhaya downed Langford (DAV), 6-2, 6-2 for a 3-1 Spider lead. Leonor Oliveira handled business on court No. 3, as she picked up a 7-5, 7-5 win over Kollock (DAV). To round out the match, the Wildcats scratched back to 4-3 in favor of UR with singles wins on courts four and one.

"It's always great to get a conference win," Dunbar said. "We knew it was going to be a battle. Davidson is a really tough team and we had to earn everything. We're really exciting by the win but we have still have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks."
