RICHMOND, Va. – Despite ECU picking up the doubles point, the University of Richmond women's tennis team posted five-straight singles wins for a 5-2 victory over visiting Eastern Carolina Friday afternoon at the Westhampton Tennis Courts. With the win, the Spiders move to 6-5 overall and remain a perfect 5-0 at home while the Pirates dropped to 8-6 on the year.

The Pirates came out on a hot streak, picking up the doubles court No. 3 win, 6-3 over Spider duo Lainey O'Neil and Carly Cohen before Lara Bakhaya and Polina Shitikova came away with a 6-3 win over Auerswald/Rivera Ortiz (ECU) on court two. ECU squeezed out the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court No. 1 over Andrea Campodonico and Claire Le Du.
In singles, the Pirates were able to go up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court two. The Spiders stormed to the 5-2 victory over ECU with five-straight singles wins as Bakhaya downed Hussain (ECU) 6-1, 6-1 on court No. 5, Shitikova came out on top 6-4, 6-1 over Madi (ECU) on court No. 6, Leonor Oliveira won 6-3, 6-2 on court No. 3 and Novak solidified the win for Richmond with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Rivera Ortiz (ECU) on court four. Campodonico gave the Spiders a plus one with a thrilling three-set victory over Bachir (ECU), 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
From Head Coach Jacob Dunbar
"Doubles has been a really strong suit for us, but today we faltered a little bit and got out to an early hole," Dunbar said. "We did not play the aggressive and confident doubles we have been. But we bounced back really quick and played very tough, disciplined tennis in singles. So I'm really happy with that turn around and I think it's some great momentum to take into tomorrow where we are going to have to play just as tough.
