
Spiders Split Matches to Round out Trip to Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Richmond Men's Tennis team split a pair of matches in the Volunteer State over spring break, picking up a heavy-hitting 6-1 win over Lipscomb on Mar. 9 and then fell 4-0 to Belmont, with a doubles match and three singles matches going unfinished on Mar. 10. Following the week of matches, the Spiders moved to 8-4 on the season.
Against Lipscomb, William Karpinski and Daniel Kliebhan defeated Bogdanovich (LIP), 6-2, on doubles court one, while John Walsh and Alex Wernink handled business on court two, defeating Singh/Ushizima (LIP), 6-4. Sebastian Miano and Davis Wiley gave the Spiders the doubles point, winning by forfeit on court three.
In singles, Kliebhan defeated Bogdanovich, 6-2, 6-3, on court one while Karpinski defeated Ushizima, 6-2, 6-2 on court two. Walsh picked up his singles win, 6-4, 2-6, 1(11)-0(9) on court three against Singh and Miano won 6-2, 5-7, 10-2 over Stojanovic (LIP) on court four. Mark Taranov won by forfeit on court six for the final Spider point.
Against Belmont, Kliebhan, Karpinski and Wiley all left their respective matches unfinished in singles play while Alaister Burke and Taranov also left their doubles match unfinished against Tomas/Cruz on court three.
The Spiders will continue the season in the Carolinas, taking on UNC Asheville on Mar. 17 at 2 p.m. in Asheville, S.C., and will take on Furman on Mar. 18 at 3 pp.m. in Greenville, S.C.
