
Spiders Down La Salle, Advance to A-10 Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team used a comeback in doubles play to switch the momentum and take a 4-0 win over No. 12 seed La Salle in the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship First Round on Thursday morning.
The Explorers put the pressure on early with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. The Spider pair of Brice Polender and Klein Evans fell behind early on court 2, but were able to bounce back to a 6-3 victory to tie things up. Matt Fernandez and George Lovitt sealed the point for the Spiders with a 6-2 win on court 3.
After dropping his doubles matchup, senior James Aronson came out firing in singles action, dominating La Salle's Rogelio Gonzalez on court 3, 6-1, 6-0. Evans then posted his second comeback of the day on court 4 to extend the Spider lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tomas Christian.
It was Lovitt who would clinch the win for the Spiders, downing Patrick Pascual at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2.
The Spiders have a quick turnaround, returning to action in the A-10 quarterfinal round on Friday, April 27. They will face No. 4 seed George Washington for the second time this season, with match time set for 9 a.m. at the USTA National Campus.
