WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The University of Richmond men's tennis team fell to the 68th-ranked College of William and Mary late Saturday afternoon, 7-0, in a match played at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Va.
The Tribe was just too much for their in-state rivals on the day as the Spiders managed to win only one set. The lone match to go past two sets was at the No. 2 singles spot, where Spider sophomore Niki Doll (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg Gymnasium) fell to Geoffrey Russell, 6-4, 4-6, (10-7).
Doll and senior Todd Parker (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) had the task of going up against the tandem of Russell and Sean Kelleher, ranked No. 11 in the region, at the No. 1 doubles spot. The Spiders dropped the match, 8-4, as they would drop the other two doubles matches by the identical score.
Richmond will return to action next weekend as the Spiders travel cross-town to participate in the VCU Invitational on January 25-26.
