Spiders Outmatched by Wolfpack Friday Night

Raleigh, N.C. — No. 21 Richmond suffered its first loss of the season Friday night, falling 73-0 to NC State at Carter-Finley Stadium in a game interrupted by a lightning delay.
NC State scored on each of its first six possessions and built a 49-0 halftime lead. The Wolfpack finished with 734 yards of offense, including 428 rushing, while Richmond totaled 110 yards and six first downs.
Richmond (2-1) entered Friday having not allowed a first-half point through wins over Bucknell and Howard, outscoring its first two opponents 48-0 before halftime. NC State scored three times in the opening quarter, including a 65-yard touchdown run on a one-play, 11-second drive.
The Wolfpack led 28-0 when play was suspended because of lightning at 7:56 p.m. with 11:33 remaining in the second quarter. NC State added three more touchdowns after play resumed to take a 49-0 lead into halftime.
Richmond has become familiar with weather interruptions in recent seasons. The Spiders' 2024 season opener at Virginia was halted for 2 hours, 18 minutes with 4:48 remaining in the second quarter. In 2025, Richmond's Week 2 game at Wofford was pushed back 90 minutes because of weather, while the Week 4 matchup against VMI at Robins Stadium included a 3-hour, 19-minute delay that began with 1:54 remaining in the first quarter.
Richmond crossed midfield under its own power once, reaching the NC State 46 in the first quarter. Its only other possession in Wolfpack territory began at the NC State 43 in the third quarter after Tramayne Bullock recovered a muffed punt.
Quarterback Ashten Snelsire finished 8-of-23 for 76 yards and threw his first interception of the season. Michael Creamer's 23-yard reception was Richmond's longest offensive play, while Warrick Stephenson led the Spiders on the ground with 58 yards on 14 carries.
Defensively, Jackson Thorne led Richmond with eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Blake Houser and Jordan Wilkes each finished with seven tackles, while Tramayne Bullock added six tackles and recovered a fumble. Jordan Allen recorded five tackles and a tackle for loss, while Jefferson Serkfem and TJ Baldwin each registered a sack.
NC State averaged 10.6 yards per play, converted eight of 10 third downs and held the ball for 37:43. Richmond converted two of 13 third downs and punted nine times.
After two straight weeks on the road, Richmond returns to Robins Stadium Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Spiders host Georgetown in a Patriot League matchup at 3:30 p.m.
