Richmond, Va. — Freshman Kyle Bitsko had four field-goal attempts come up empty Saturday afternoon. Given one final chance, he converted the one Richmond needed most.

Bitsko connected from 49 yards as time expired for the first field goal of his career, completing a day of redemption and lifting Richmond to a 24-21 Patriot League win over Georgetown at Robins Stadium. The victory moved the Spiders to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in League play for the first time since joining the conference in 2025.

The final kick provided a fitting ending to an afternoon in which Richmond repeatedly moved into scoring position but left points on the field. Bitsko missed from 31 and 40 yards in the first half, had a 32-yard attempt blocked just before halftime and missed from 34 yards in the third quarter before getting another opportunity with the game on the line.

All 21 of Richmond's points before the final snap came in the first half, and all three touchdowns came from Aziz Foster-Powell.

Foster-Powell opened the scoring with a 33-yard touchdown run with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter, then scored from four yards out early in the second to give Richmond a 14-0 lead. Georgetown answered 46 seconds later when Jack Johnson connected with Hassan Mahasin for a 71-yard touchdown, the first of several explosive plays that helped the Hoyas remain within reach.

Richmond responded with a 10-play, 62-yard drive, capped by Foster-Powell's 12-yard touchdown reception from Ashten Snelsire with 2:42 left before halftime. The score gave Foster-Powell three touchdowns in the opening half and sent Richmond to the break ahead 21-7.

The Spiders had opportunities to add to the margin but could not convert them, opening the door for Georgetown's second-half comeback.

Punter Ned Gray helped Richmond flip the field in the third quarter with a career-long 60-yard punt that pinned Georgetown at its own 10. The Hoyas quickly worked their way out, however, as Jayden Sumpter broke a 45-yard run and Mahasin added a 36-yard reception during a 90-yard touchdown drive. Johnson eventually found Isaiah Grimes from two yards out to cut Richmond's lead to 21-14 with 9:08 remaining in the third.

Richmond answered with a 13-play drive but came away without points when Bitsko's 34-yard attempt missed. Georgetown later tied the game with a 15-play, 96-yard drive that consumed 7:30, using a 26-yard reception by Grimes and a 16-yard run by Sumpter to move into scoring position. Johnson's two-yard touchdown pass to Burke Carroll made it 21-21 with 5:20 remaining.

Richmond's defense kept the Spiders in position throughout the second half. Devin Geronomi and Blake Houser shared the team lead with nine tackles apiece, with Houser adding 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Daniel Sellers, Camden Byrd and Jamar Hodges also contributed to Richmond's three-sack effort, while the secondary broke up four passes. Georgetown managed just 53 offensive plays compared with Richmond's 77.

After the teams traded punts, Richmond got one more chance at its own 28 with 2:16 to play.

The drive initially went backward. A holding penalty and delay of game pushed the Spiders to their own seven, leaving Snelsire and the offense facing second-and-31. Snelsire found Bryce Allen for 10 yards, then connected with Andreas Hill for 20 on third-and-21. A Georgetown facemask call at the end of the play moved Richmond across midfield and gave the Spiders new life.

Snelsire later found Allen for 10 yards on third-and-10 to extend the drive, then hit Quanye Veney for seven yards to move Richmond to the Georgetown 31. After Foster-Powell was stopped for a one-yard loss and both teams used timeouts with five seconds remaining, Bitsko returned to the field.

This time, the freshman's kick from 49 yards split the uprights as the clock reached zero.

Richmond finished with 467 yards of offense and 27 first downs while limiting Georgetown to 303 yards and 12 first downs. The Spiders held the ball for 34:48, did not commit a turnover and outgained the Hoyas 322-193 through the air.

Snelsire completed 29-of-49 passes for a career-high 322 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Foster-Powell finished with 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries while adding five receptions for 35 yards and another score. Allen led Richmond with six catches for 78 yards, while Veney added six receptions for 73 yards.

Gray averaged 47.0 yards on four punts, placed three inside the 20 and established a new career long with his 60-yarder. Richmond's defense recorded three sacks and held Georgetown to 110 rushing yards on 30 attempts.

Richmond remains at Robins Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 26, when the Spiders host Furman at 2 p.m. during Family Weekend Presented by Sheehy Lexus of Richmond.
