Spiders Sweep A-10 Weekend with Wins Over Rhode Island, Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Claiming seven of 11 completed singles matches across two contests, the University of Richmond women's tennis team delivered a perfect weekend in Atlantic 10 Conference play, earning back-to-back victories over Rhode Island and Davidson at the Davidson Tennis Courts. The Spiders defeated Rhode Island 4-2 on Saturday before edging host Davidson 4-3 on Sunday to improve to 7-9 overall and 2-1 in A-10 play.
How It Happened
Against Rhode Island, the Spiders dropped the doubles point but responded with four singles victories to secure the win.
Beatriz Guerra began the rally with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 victory on court six, improving to 5-9 in dual singles this spring. Lucy Webber followed with a three-set win on court three, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, pushing her team-leading record to 10-5.
Abby Lee gave Richmond the lead with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 comeback win on court four, before Lainey O'Neil sealed the match on court five with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-1 victory, improving to 6-6 on the season.
On Sunday against Davidson, Richmond secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Sofia Barbulescu and Lucy Webber earned a 6-4 win on the top court, while the duo of Guerra and Lee battled to a 7-6 (7-4) victory on court three.
Davidson responded with wins on courts two and three in singles to take a 2-1 lead, but Richmond answered with wins on three of the final four courts.
Guerra tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court six. Lee followed with another three-set victory on court four, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, to give Richmond a 3-2, before Barbulescu delivered the clinching point on court one, outlasting Savanna Kollock in a three-set battle, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), to secure the 4-3 win for the Spiders.
