Spiders Extend Win Streak with Senior Day Victory Over Liberty

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 4-3 victory over Liberty Friday afternoon at the Westhampton Tennis Complex. Following the match, the Spiders honored seniors Elizabeth Novak and Lara Bakhaya. With the win, Richmond improved to 8-9 overall and extended its winning streak to four matches, while Liberty fell to 12-9.
How It Happened
Richmond claimed the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Beatriz Guerra and Abby Lee opened doubles play with a 6-3 victory over Anika Lemus and Candy Wai on court three. After Liberty answered with a 7-5 win on court two, Lara Bakhaya and Sofia Barbulescu secured the point for the Spiders with a 7-5 decision over Yoanna Radulova and Maria Turchetto on court one.
Liberty took the first two completed singles matches to move in front 2-1. Celina Joseph posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Guerra on court five, then Maria Turchetto followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Novak on court two.
Richmond answered on court three, where Lucy Webber regrouped after dropping the second set to defeat Yoanna Radulova 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 and even the match at 2-2. Liberty moved back ahead when Milana Tsulygina outlasted Lee on court four, 1-6, 7-6, 6-3.
The Spiders turned the match behind a pair of three-set wins on the final two courts. Barbulescu battled back from a first-set loss to defeat Daniella O'Neill 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on court one, tying the match once again, 3-3. With the dual decided on court six, Lainey O'Neil closed it out for Richmond with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Anika Lemus to secure the 4-3 result.
