Guerra, O’Neil Pace Women’s Tennis at Navy’s Blue and Gold Invite

ANNAPOLIS – The Richmond women's tennis team collected 15 singles wins and five doubles victories at the Blue and Gold Invite hosted by the US Naval Academy over the weekend. The Spiders were led in singles action by Beatriz Guerra and Lainey O'Neil and Madeline Kroupetski paired with O'Neil in doubles play. Guerra won all four singles victories in Flight C while O'Neil collected all her wins in Flight D singles. O'Neil then paired with Kroupetski to win Flight B doubles action.

In Flight A singles, Sofia Barbulescu picked up wins over Imani Jean of Howard (6-2, 6-0), Nicole Fu (7-6 (8-6), 6-2, 10-7) of Navy and Isabella De Luise of Villanova (6-2, 6-3). Barbulescu fell in the finals 7-5, 6-2, 10-7 to William & Mary's Nichole Lukesova. Also in Flight A singles, Lucy Webber dropped her first match to Lukesova 6-3, 6-2. She moved into the Flight A singles consolation bracket, collecting a win over Peyton Amspacher-Philemon (WO) before falling to William & Mary's Mira Kernagis 6-2, 7-5.

In Flight B singles, Victoria Mann won her first match 6-3, 2-6 (10-7) over Howard's Leah Thomas before falling to Laua Damm of George Washington 0-6, 6-2 (7-10). Madeline Kroupetski dropped her first match to the Navy's Manci Pal 7-5, 6-1. Kroupetski, in the Flight B consolation bracket, collected a win over Jenna Stevens of Villanova (4-1, 4-1) before falling to GW's Alexandria Lindqvist 5-4 (9-7), 4-0.

In Flight C singles, Abby Lee won her first two matches, defeating Alina Kornyeva (Villanova) 6-2, 6-3 and Vaida Matuseviciute of GW 6-0, 6-2. Lee fell to Navy's Mary Cain Webster 6-4, 7-5. Beatriz Guerra collected straight-set wins over Alicia Eberwein (UNCW) 6-4, 6-1, Lauren Olvier (HU) 6-2, 6-0 and Mary Bellia (USNA) 6-0, 6-2. In the finals of Flight C, Guerra defeated Webster 6-4, 6-1.

O'Neil wrapped up Flight D singles for the Spiders. She started with a straight-set win over Howard's Lyric Wilson, 6-0, 6-1, and then came out on top of a tough first set tiebreaker over Navy's Jina Cha 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. She won the finals match of Flight D over Wilmington's 6-0, 6-2.

In Flight A doubles action, Lucy Webber and Sofia Barbulescu defeated Navy's Fu and Amspacher-Philemon, 7-6 (7-2). Webber and Barbulescu fell to William & Mary's Svabikova and Davis, 6-4. Also in Flight A doubles, Wilmington's Eberwein and Borcich collected a 6-1 win over Lee and Mann.

In Flight B doubles, O'Neil and Kroupetski (UR) opened action with a 6-3 win over GW's Sasinka and Snyder 6-3 before collecting a 6-1 victory over William & Mary duo of Lukesova and Debnam. The UR duo wrapped up doubles action with back-to-back 6-4 victories over Navy's Pal and Bellia and William and Mary's Chandana and Larsson. Navy's Webster and Lee defeated Oleary and Guerra, 6-3, in more Flight B doubles.
