03/07/2026 | Baseball
RICHMOND, Va. – Joey Giordano took a no-hitter into the seventh inning Saturday at Pitt Field, allowing the one Binghamton run of the day on a solo home run before striking out the side to finish the frame. Giordano finished the day with a career-high 12 strikeouts over seven innings.
Richmond, 9-6, picked up an 8-1 victory to even the weekend series with Binghamton, 3-8. The squads return to Pitt Field for the Sunday rubber match for a 1 p.m. first pitch on ESPN+.
Giordano worked around some traffic in the second inning after allowing a walk and a Spider throwing error. He then retired the Bearcats in order over the next three innings. In the sixth, he hit one batter but got out of trouble with a strikeout.
The Spiders jumped out to a quick 3-0 in the first. Michael Elko brought in Evan Wilson with the Spiders third-straight base hit to start the game. RJ Johnson Jr. pushed in Dylan Winebrenner with a base hit to right field before Elko scored on a failed pickoff attempt for the Spiders third run.
Richmond added three more runs in the fourth inning. RJ Rickabaugh led off with a double and took third on Chris Schaller's base hit. Wilson laced a two-RBI base hit to right to pick up Rickabaugh and Schaller. Elko again scored Wilson with a sharp liner back through the infield to center to give UR a 6-0 lead.
UR answered with two more runs in the seventh. Elko, after reaching on his third base hit of the day, scored on Ryan Recio's double down the left field line. Recio then advanced on Johnson Jr.'s sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch.
Chase Topolski allowed one hit over two innings of work, collecting two strikeouts to keep the Bearcats off the board.
