Spider Baseball Captures Midweek Victory Over Coppin State

Richmond, 10-7 on the season, closes out a 12-game home stand this weekend when Saint Joseph's heads south to open Atlantic 10 Conference action at Pitt Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. for all three games. Friday's and Sunday's games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Angel Santiago-Cruz collected his first win of the season after tossing two scoreless frames and working around two hits and striking out three. Sam Young, Aaron Van Tuyle, Chase Lawley followed with scoreless frames of their own. Christian Dray went one and a third, allowing the Eagles only run of the day on a hit, a walk and a hit batter with two strikeouts. Paul Wiktop got the final two outs, including a strikeout.
The Spiders batted around in the first inning, scoring five runs on one hit, two hit batters, four walks and CSU error. UR was plunked a season-high eight times, including Evan Wilson getting hit three times.
Michael Elko paced the Spiders with a 3-for-3 day, including a double and a walk, scored four times and stole a season-high four bases. Grant Kennedy tallied two hits and two RBI and a walk while Noah Harvey chipped in his first two collegiate hits, including a two-RBI base hit in the fifth.
In the second inning, UR had six batters reach and three more runs score before the first out was recorded. Kennedy picked up one of his two RBI in the third on a double before Trevor Dosenbach pushed a run in on a base hit.
After two straight hit batters, UR had three-straight hits, including two doubles to push three more runs across in the fourth inning. Three more runs came in on four hits and two walks in the fifth for the Spiders. With two outs in the sixth, UR strung together, three walks, an infield single and a hit batter to push in three more runs.
