Seven-Run Seventh Powers Spiders Past Cornell

Richmond, now 7-4 on the year, and Cornell, 0-6 on the year, wrap up the series on Sunday. First pitch is set noon on ESPN+.
Cornell struck first with a solo home run off UR starter Joey Giordano. Giordano regrouped and kept the Big Red off board for four straight innings before allowing a second run in the sixth. He finished with scattering the two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.
Joe Crenshaw, in his first Spider start as the designated hitter, laced a RBI single to left field to put Richmond on the board in the second.
Richmond added to its lead in the third inning with a three-run home run by Ryan Recio. Recio now has three home runs on the season.
Chase Topolski took over on the mound for the Spiders in the seventh, allowing the Big Red to get within one run at 4-3. His offense answered in the bottom of the frame, posting seven runs on five hits and two Big Red errors.
Michael Elko led off the seventh with a solo home run, his second home run in as many days, to left field. Grant Kennedy picked up one of his four base hits on the day to score pinch runner Reid Downs. Recio scored on Sean Scanlon's sacrifice fly misplayed by Cornell in left before Kennedy scored on a wild pitch. Trevor Dosenbach then brought in Jose Crenshaw with a base hit to left before Elko doubled in Scanlon and Dosenback for the final two runs of the frame.
Topolski collected his second save of the season, retiring Cornell in order in the eighth and ninth innings. Topolski finished with one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts over three innings.
