Spider Baseball Collects Series Sweep Over Cornell

Richmond, 8-4 on the year, continues the homestand Tuesday, hosting Longwood at Pitt Field. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
Cornell, 0-7, got on the board first after stringing together two hits and a Richmond error to get an unearned run off Jackson Hinchliffe. Hinchliffe went three and two-thirds of an inning, scattering five hits and allowing one unearned run. Keane Hyer got the final out of the fourth, inducing a fly ball from the only batter he faced.
With the bases loaded in the second, RJ Johnson Jr put the Spiders on the board with a sharp ground ball to right. The second run of the frame crossed on a ground out to put the Spiders up, 2-1.
RJ Rickabaugh launched his first home run of the season to right field in the fourth inning.
After making a leaping grab at the wall to end the top of the sixth, Johnson Jr. followed Chris Schaller's leadoff double with an RBI base hit to center for his third of four hits on the day. Johnson Jr., moved up to second on the throw to the plate and scored on Aidan O'Keefe's double to left. Dylan Winebrenner picked up his second of three hits in the game with an RBI base hit to score O'Keefe for the third run of the frame and put UR up 6-1.
Chayse Gruber tossed three innings, working around one run in the seventh on five hits and three strikeouts for his second win of the season. Bjian Anvar retired the Big Red in order in the eighth, collecting a strikeout.
Ryan Recio launched his fourth home run of the season and third of the series in the seventh inning. Johnson Jr. collected another RBI base hit before scoring on a wild pitch to put UR up, 9-2.
With two on in the eighth, Khris Morris launched his second home run of the season, a three-run shot, to finish the 10-run rule victory, 12-2.
