Spiders return All-Conference core and welcome six newcomers ahead of 2025–26 season
RICHMOND, Va. — After a historic 2024–25 campaign that saw Richmond win its first ever NCAA Tournament game in program history, Spider Women's Basketball has finalized its roster for the 2025–26 season under the direction of seventh-year head coach Aaron Roussell.
The Spiders return a strong core from last year's squad including Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Maggie Doogan and All-Conference First Team selection Rachel Ullstrom, while welcoming six new faces, including two experienced transfers and four talented freshmen.
Returning Core
Doogan, a rising senior, became the first Spider to be named A-10 Player of the Year and earned national recognition throughout the 2024-25 season, including a semifinalist nod for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award. She averaged 17.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while helping lead Richmond to its first-ever NCAA Tournament win with a 30-point, 15-rebound effort against No. 9 Georgia Tech.
Ullstrom, who surpassed 1,000 career points in just three seasons, returns after averaging 15.3 points and shooting 53.8% from the field and 42.3% from range. The senior guard was named to the A-10 First Team and also helped Team USA win its fourth straight 3x3 Nations League Americas Title this summer in Chile.
Rising junior point guard Ally Sweeney is back after seeing action in all 35 games as a sophomore and ranking among the A-10 leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9). Sweeney averaged 7.9 points per game and shot an impressive 44.3% from beyond the arc.
Also returning are key contributors Sam Dewey, Alicia Newell, Payton Richard, and Jada Green, each of whom saw action during the Spiders' postseason run. Redshirt freshman Annika Manthy enters her second year with the program.
Newcomers on the Block
Richmond welcomes two seasoned transfers in Tierra Simon and Skylah Travis, bolstering the frontcourt with size, rebounding and veteran experience with the departure of Spider great Addie Budnik following her final season.
Simon, a transfer from Saint Louis, averaged 8.8 points and 8.9 rebounds while starting all 32 games for the Billikens. She ranked among the A-10's top five in rebounding and posted seven double-doubles during the season.
Travis arrives at Richmond following a season at Louisiana and previous stops at Missouri and Old Dominion. She averaged 5.6 points and 6.6 rebounds last year with the Ragin' Cajuns while shooting over 60% from the floor.
The four-member freshman class features standout local product Rayne Wright (Manchester HS), who led her team to a VHSL Class 6A State Championship and was named the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro Player of the Year. She is joined by three-time Pennsylvania Fist Team All-State selection Ava Persichetti (Pa.), 2023-24 Tri-Metro Player of the Year Aneisha Scott (Minn.) and 2022-23 PSAL Champion Shaneka Campbell (N.Y.).
