University of Richmond Head Coach Aaron Roussell announced the addition of Alex Louin to the Spider Women’s Basketball coaching staff ahead of the 2023–24 season.
“I am thrilled to add Alex to our staff,” Roussell said. “Alex is regarded highly by those that have worked with her in the past, and I know she will be a tremendous asset to our program as well. I’m confident that her player development background will benefit our players and staff immediately.”
Now in her third season with the Spiders in 2025–26, Louin has continued to make a significant impact in the development of Richmond’s guards and perimeter play. Since her arrival, the Spiders have won back-to-back Atlantic 10 regular season titles and made consecutive postseason appearances — including a return to the NCAA Tournament and the program’s first tournament win in over three decades during the 2024–25 season. Her experience as both a high-level collegiate and professional player has been instrumental in player skill development and scouting.
Louin brought a wealth of playing and coaching experience to Richmond. Prior to joining the Spiders, she served as an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington for the 2022–23 season. Before that, she spent a year working with the Fordham Men’s Basketball program as a player development coach.
“I’m so excited and grateful for the opportunity to be added to the coaching staff here at Richmond,” Louin said when she was hired. “I have a long-standing relationship with Coach Roussell which began when he recruited me out of high school. He has a brilliant basketball mind and has created an unbelievable culture here at Richmond that I can’t wait to be immersed in.”
A native of Doylestown, Pa., Louin also played professionally in Europe, first with BBX Grengewald Hueschert in Luxembourg, where she was named First-Team All-Total League and hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to win the league championship in 2018. She later starred with Torpan Pojat (ToPo) in Finland, leading the league in scoring at 28 points per game, earning First-Team All-League and Foreign Player of the Year honors as the team’s only American player.
Before her professional career, Louin was a four-year standout at Villanova (2014–18). She earned All-Big East honors all four years, scored 1,432 career points, and ranks among Villanova’s top 20 in points, rebounds, and assists. She led the Wildcats to three WNIT appearances and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2018, the program’s first in five years.
“It is a cool moment to be able to hire Alex now as we recruited her many years ago as a player coming out of the Philly area,” Roussell said. “She went on to have an incredible playing career and I know she will do equally great things as a coach as well.”
Louin graduated from Villanova with a double major in economics and finance and holds a Master of Business Administration from her alma mater.
