Spiders Close Road Swing with Victory at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team capped off its road trip on a high note, securing a 5-2 victory over Liberty on Sunday at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. With the win, the Spiders improve to 5-4 on the season, while the Flames drop to 6-10.
How It Happened
Richmond claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Spider duo Claire Le Du and Lainey O'Neil set the tone with a 6-3 victory over Yu-Yun Chen and Celina Joseph (LU), while Sofia Barbulescu and Elizabeth Novak clinched the point with a 6-4 win against Anika Lemus and Yoanna Radulova (LU). Liberty picked up a win on court one, but the Spiders carried a 1-0 lead into singles play.
In singles action, Richmond continued to dominate. Le Du quickly extended the lead with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Joseph (LU) on court six. Barbulescu followed with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 performance against Radulova (LU) on court one. After Liberty got on the board with a win on court three, Andrea Campodonico sealed the team victory, battling through a first-set tiebreak before taking a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Daniella O'Neill (LU) on court two.
Lara Bakhaya added to Richmond's success with a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) win over Maria Turchetto (LU) on court four. Liberty secured a final point with a narrow super tiebreak win on court five, as Anika Lemus (LU) edged Novak 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
