
Baseball Dominates Bonnies in A-10 Season Opener

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team picked up a ninth-straight win Friday, defeating St. Bonaventure 12-0 to open Atlantic 10 Conference action at Pitt Field.
Richmond moves to 16-2, 1-0 in league action as St. Bonaventure falls to 7-9, 0-1. Due to inclement weather forecasted for Sunday, the series will now wrap up with a doubleheader Saturday with game one beginning at 10 a.m. on ESPN+. Game two will follow 40 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Spider hurlers Esteban Rodriguez and Ryan Bilka tossed a combined shutout, the first since a 2-0 victory over Sacred Heart last season. Rodriguez scattered four hits, one walk and struck out three in four and one-third of an inning of work. Bilka (4-0) allowed one hit and struck out four in four and two-thirds of an inning on the mound.
UR scored in six of eight innings, including four in a row to start the game. The Spiders got on the board with a Bonnies miscue in the second inning, then Michael Elko hit his __ home run of the season to centerfield in the second. In the third inning, Brady O'Brien picked up Aaron Whitley with a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 3-0.
With two on and one out in the fourth, Spence MacInnis collected his first collegiate hit with a bunt single between the catcher and pitcher down the third base line to load the bases. Whitley picked up an RBI base hit to score the first run of the inning before Jordan Jaffe doubled down the left field line to score two. Jack Arcamone brought in the fourth run with a ground out behind the lead runner for a 7-0 lead.
Jaffe and Arcamone hit back-to-back home runs to start the seventh inning for 9-0 lead. Jaffe now leads the team with six home runs on the season while Arcamone is just behind with five home runs.
Arcamone picked up a third RBI in the eighth with a sacrifice fly while Elko doubled in two more runs to push the Spiders lead to 12-0.
