
Women's Lacrosse Falls to Davidson on the Road

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team fell 14-11 to Davidson at the Davidson College Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Richmond falls to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Meanwhile, Davidson improves to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

"Credit to Davidson for coming out with a strong game plan and being ready to compete from the first whistle," said Head Coach, Anne Harrington.

"I'm proud of our team for staying in the fight and making it a game after going down early. That takes guts and that fight will help us find success in the second half of our season. We learn from every game and this one is no exception. We move forward by taking ownership over our own misplays and lapses while also learning from areas that Davidson exposed. We will continue to get better and trust our process this season."

Sophomore Bridget Lonsinger led the team with four points on two goals and two assists. Junior Juliana Stanley and Senior Colleen Quinn earned a hat trick. Redshirt sophomore Emma Kroneberger netted two goals and senior Grace Muldoon put one past the keeper.

In goal, sophomore Abby Francioli tallied a save and freshman Maggie Mullen collected five saves in 41 minutes of play.Â

In the first quarter, Davidson scored three straight goals. To stop the momentum, Stanley scored the Spiders first goal, 3-1. In response, the Wildcats scored extending their lead to three, 4-1. Scoring back-to-back goals, Stanley netted her second goal of the day, 4-2. Closing the first quarter, Davidson score two straight goals to take the 6-2 lead. In the second quarter, Richmond outscored the Wildcats 5-2. Davidson started out the quarter with back-to-back goals, but the Spiders offense scored five straight goals. Stanley earned her hat trick, Kroneberger scored two straight goals and Quinn and Lonsinger each netted a goal. At halftime, the Spiders cut the deficit by one, 8-7

At the start of the second half, Davidson and Richmond exchanged goals with Muldoon and Lonsinger scoring for the Spiders and Richmond trailing 10-9. Capitalizing on the free position opportunity, Quinn scored her second goal of the game, tying the contest 10-10. In the last frame of the game, the Spiders and the Wildcats went back and forth but Davidson sealed the 14-11 victory scoring three goals in the last quarter. Â
The Spiders return to action this Saturday, March 15 at 3:30 p.m. at home against La Salle.Â
