
Spiders' 10-Goal Lead in First Quarter Helps Push Past La Salle

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team made light work of La Salle Saturday afternoon, defeating the Explorers 19-3 at Robins Stadium. The Spiders jumped to a 10-goal lead and prompted a running clock after just 12:08 of game time had passed.

The win moves Richmond to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while La Salle falls to 1-8 and 0-3 in conference.

Ten different Spiders contributed points, led by Alexis Morton with seven (5 goals, 2 assists), followed by Colleen Quinn with six (3 goals, 3 assists).

Megan Rice and Grace Muldoon recorded two goals and an assist each, and Keating Hopkins and Juliana Stanley each had two goals. Elizabeth Darcy, Charlotte Edwards and Caroline Chandler each had a goal, and Whitney Liebler added an assist.

In goal, Abby Francioli and Maggie Mullen split time in the cage. Francioli recorded five saves and Mullen recorded two. On the draw, Victoria Rankin led the team with five draw controls, and four Spiders each collected two ground balls.

The Spiders opened with a dominant start, initiating the running clock within the first 12 minutes of the contest, taking a 10-0 lead after the first quarter. The Spiders scored eight straight goals, leading 18-0 at the 5:53 mark of the third quarter. La Salle netted its first goal at 4:08 in the third quarter, making it 18-1. In the final frame, Richmond netted a goal, and the Explorers were able to score twice against the Richmond defense. With the early lead, the Spiders sealed the 19-3 victory.
