Richmond Nearly Tops No. 18 James Madison in Road Game

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team fell 14-10 to No. 18 James Madison at Sentara Park on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Richmond falls to 2-3, while JMU improves to 3-1.Â

Senior Colleen Quinn finished with six points with three goals and three assists. Junior Alexis Morton tallied three points on two goals and one assist, reaching a career milestone of 100 points. Senior Grace Muldoon earned a hat trick.Â
Between the pipes, sophomore Abby Francioli had a season-high 15 saves. Â

The Spiders were first to strike when Quinn scored her first goal of the game, 1-0. JMU went on a two-goal run to extend the lead by one, 2-1. Closing the first quarter, Richmond scored back-to-back goals from Morton and Muldoon to take the lead, 3-2. The Dukes opened the second quarter with three unanswered goals, 5-3. Both teams exchanged a goal, with JMU leading 6-4. Heading into halftime, Richmond scored two straight goals to tie the game 6-6. Â

At the start of the second half, James Madison shut out the Spiders scoring four unanswered goals. In the last frame, Richmond and JMU exchanged goals but the Dukes sealed the 14-10 victory.
