Women’s Tennis Clinches Doubles Point, Drops Close Battle at Delaware

NEWARK, De. – The University of Richmond women's team dropped a close-knit battle, 4-3, at Delaware Sunday afternoon to drop to 4-5 on the season. The Blue Hens improved to 13-5 on the year following the win.

The Spiders started the match strong, as Lainey O'Neil and Carly Cohen defeated Hrynashka/Honrubia (DEL), 6-3 on court three and Lara Bakhaya and Polina Shitikova downed Coetzee/Vasilenko (DEL), 7-5 on court two to clinch the doubles point for Richmond.

In singles, the Blue Hens tied the match on court six, and picked up the go-ahead point on court two. UD wins on courts one and four would push the lead to 4-1. Leonor Oliveira would put UR on the board with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Vasilenko (DEL) and Bakhaya rounded out the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Honrubia (DEL) on court five as UR dropped the match 4-3.
