
Richmond Sweeps Virginia Wesleyan, 7-0

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team won the doubles point and won all six singles matches to defeat Virginia Wesleyan, 7-0, Friday at the Westhampton Tennis Courts. Richmond didn't drop a set or lose a match in doubles.
The Spiders (4-6, 1-1 A-10) started the match by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. At No. 3 doubles, junior Alex Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and graduate student Matt Fernandez (Richmond, Va.) earned a 6-1 win against Michael Portera and Connor Cummins.
Junior John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and junior Campbell Erwin (San Antonio, Texas) clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win against Anthony Wilson and Henry West at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1 doubles, freshman Daniel Kliebhan (Newtown, Pa.) and junior Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) defeated Felix Bevc and Mitchell Perry, 6-3. Kliebhan and Keitelman won three games in a row to complete the sweep.
In singles, Keitelman won by retirement after Bevc couldn't play giving Richmond a 2-0 lead. Walsh won in straight sets against Portera, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Erwin clinched the win against Cummings, 6-2,6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Kliebhan gave the Spiders a 5-0 lead after winning against Wilson, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Wernink won in straight sets against West, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
In the final match, Fernandez earned a straight-sets win against Perry, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to complete the 7-0 sweep.
