
Richmond Drops Close Match At Wofford, 4-3

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team won the doubles point but fell just short in singles in a 4-3 road loss at Wofford Sunday at the Reeves Tennis Center.
The Spiders started the match by winning all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) and senior Matt Fernandez (Richmond, Va.) earned a 6-3 win against Omar Williams and Bryce Keim.
Sophomores John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Alex Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y.) clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles against Lucas Cerbelli and Diego Losada.
In the final doubles match, senior Klein Evans (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Campbell Erwin (San Antonio, Texas) also picked up a 6-3 win against Javi Casasolas and Callum Rendle at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Erwin won in straight sets against Edu Villar, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Evans fell to Cerbelli 7-5, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. Williams tied the match at 2-2 with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Fernandex at No. 1 singles.
Senior George Lovitt (Marvin, N.C.) gave Richmond a 3-2 lead after earning a tough win in three sets against Keim, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Wofford won the next two matches to earn the comeback win. Rendle won in three sets against freshman Ricky Bell (Rockville, Md.) 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
In the deciding match, Wernink lost in straight sets to Losada, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.
Richmond will host The Citadel on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Westhampton Tennis Courts.
