
Spiders Fall On The Road At Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team lost the doubles point and didn't comeback in singles in a 6-1 road loss at Furman Saturday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center.
The Spiders started the match by losing all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Josh Keitelman (Chevy Chase, Md.) and senior Matt Fernandez (Richmond, Va.) fell to Jake Munns and Jake Bhangdia, 6-3.
Furman clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles as sophomores John Walsh (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Alex Wernink (Glen Cove, N.Y.) lost to Drew Singerman and Henrik Atlevi.
In the final doubles match, senior Klein Evans (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore Campbell Erwin (San Antonio, Texas) lost to Ivan Mitric and Clarke Wilson, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Bhangdia won in straight sets against Walsh, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. At No. 5 singles, senior George Lovitt (Marvin, N.C.) fell to Atlevi, 6-2, 6-3. Munns earned a 6-1, 6-3 win against Evans at No. 2 singles. Roelofse won in straight sets against Wernink, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Fernandez picked up Richmond's lone point with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Wilson at No. 1 singles. Erwin battled at No. 4 singles but fell in three sets to Mitric, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
Richmond will remain in South Carolina and face Wofford on Sunday, Feb. 23, at Noon in Spartanburg at the Reeves Tennis Center.
