Spiders Post Weekend Sweep with 4-3 Senior Day Win Over Villanova

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team won their third match of the weekend, posting a narrow 4-3 victory over Villanova on Senior Day at the Westhampton Courts.

The Spiders celebrated the careers of seniors Caleb Troy and James Aronson after the win.

The Spiders dominated doubles play, as Brice Polender and Klein Evans took a 6-1 win on court 2, and George Lovitt and Matt Fernandez won by the same court at No. 3.

The Wildcats bounced back in singles play, winning on courts 2-4, but the Spiders would not go away. Polender won 6-1, 6-2 on court 6 over Alastair Hurry. Lovitt tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Tommy Mulflur on court 5, leaving just the No. 1 match.

It was senior Troy who put everything on the line on Senior Day, coming back from a loss in the first set to down Villanova's Stefan Suarez, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in three sets.

The Spiders return to action on Friday, April 20, for the final home match of the season against Howard. Match time at the Westhampton Courts is set for 3 p.m.
