Spiders Sweep Howard In Home Finale

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team rounded out their home schedule with a 7-0 sweep of Howard on Friday afternoon at the Westhampton Courts.

The Spiders started things off with a sweep in doubles play to take a 1-0 lead. George Lovitt and Matt Fernandez paried up on court 3 for a 6-0 win, before Caleb Troy and James Aronson posted a 6-2 victory on court 1. The No. 2 pair of Brice Polender and Klein Evans pulled off the 7-5 win to keep the team rolling.

Richmond continued to dominate in singles action, as Aronson, Joe Nardini and Lovitt all logged 6-0, 6-0 sweeps on court 4, 5 and 6, respectively. Aronson downed Howard's Sagar Raju, while Nardini defeated Kyle Martin and Lovitt swept Ben Tyus.

Evans put the Spiders up 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Karim Shokeir on court 3, to give UR a 5-0 lead, before Troy downed Roger Lyn on court 1, 6-2, 6-3. Fernandez rounded out the score with a 6-3, 7-6 defeat of Cole Gittens at No. 2.

The Spiders will wrap up regular season play on Sunday, April 22, when they travel to face Davidson. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
