Spiders Drop Thursday Night Contest at Dayton, 5-1
10/19/2017 | Women's Soccer
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Richmond women's soccer team was able to create offensive pressure against host and reigning Atlantic 10 Tournament Champion Dayton, but the Flyers used three first-half goals to take a 5-1 win on Thursday night.
The Flyers came out on fire early, scoring in the third minute off of a header shot by Keagin Collie on their first corner opportunity of the day.
The Spiders held their opponent off of the board for the next 34 minutes, but Alexis Kiehl's 10th goal of the season in the 37th minute would double the Flyer lead. Caroline Mink then made it 3-0 with under three minutes to play in the half on a long shot from 20 yards out.
The Spiders turned on the offensive pressure in the second half, earning two straight corners, but couldn't find the back of the net.
After a scoreless opening 12 minutes in the half, Ashley Gross used a fast break down the field and sent the ball to Olivia Aha, whose square pass found Lexi Prillaman for the Spider goal. The goal was Prillaman's team-leading third of the season.
Dayton would respond less than 10 minutes later when Micayla Livingston scored to make it a 4-1 game, and then extended its lead on a goal from Kaitlynn Kiehl in the 70th minute to make the final score 5-1.
The Spiders return to action on Sunday at Robins Stadium for the 2017 Senior Day. Richmond will honor its senior class at 12:45 p.m. before their 1 p.m. kickoff with Davidson to wrap up the season.
