Spiders Close Out Season with 0-0 Draw Versus Davidson

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team battled with visiting Davidson for 110 minutes on Sunday afternoon, but neither team could find the back of the net as the two squads ended their seasons with a 0-0 draw.
Before the start of the game, the Spiders celebrated the careers of seniors Olivia Aha, Katie Brennan, Hannah Cornman, Emily Drummond, Maeve Holland, Lexi Prillaman, Alexis Pringle and Lindsey Williams.
The Spiders put on the offensive pressure from the beginning, but Keaira Clark's shot in the second minute of play was saved by Davidson's Becca Ravitz.
Richmond's best chance of the half came when Alyssa Walker played the ball to herself in the offensive end, beating her defender, but she was unable to convert on a one-on-one chance with Ravitz.
The Spiders' defense was on top of every Wildcat chance. Brennan, who finished the game with six saves, kept the score knotted at 0-0 with a diving save in the 30th minute.
Richmond closed out the opening half with a 7-5 shot advantage.
The second half started just as the first did, with an outburst of offensive pressure from the home squad. Bailey Cristian, Abby Erlemeier and Walker all took shots in the opening nine minutes, while the Wildcats were unable to register a second half shot until the 72nd minute of play.
Davidson nearly scored off of a corner play in the 86th minute, but Katherine Smith's header shot was saved on the goal line by Drummond.
Neither team was able to score in the second stanza, despite a 10-5 shot advantage for the Spiders, sending the two teams into overtime. It marked the sixth extra-time game of the season for Richmond.
The Wildcats held the upper hand through the opening overtime period, taking four shots to Richmond's zero, however the roles were reversed in the second overtime, with the Spiders outshooting the visitors, 4-0.
Prillaman led the team with six shots on the day, while Walker finished with four and Cristian with three.
Brennan finished her career with her second shutout of the season and seventh of her career. The Spiders wrapped up the 2017 season with a 2-6-2 record in Atlantic 10 play.
