RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond's first home loss of the season came at the worst possible moment, as Fordham's 1-0 win Sunday at President's Field knocked UR from seventh to ninth place in the A10 standings, one spot of out of reaching the conference postseason. Richmond had entered the game 6-0-3 at home this season and was seeking its second unbeaten season at home in program history.
Fordham scored in the 51st minute, with Annie Maguire poking a shot past UR keeper Isabel Seifert after catching up to a through ball from Salma Simonin. Richmond pressed hard for an equalizer, generating several scoring chances over the final 40 minutes, but the Spiders ultimately weren't able to find the breakthrough that would have sent them to their first A10 Tournament since 2021.
Richmond finished the season 8-4-6 overall, its best record and first winning season since 2011. UR's eight wins were its most in a season since 2016, when the team went 9-9-1. The Spiders also completed the first unbeaten non-conference season in program history, going 5-0-3 over their first eight games. That was part of a season-opening 11-game unbeaten streak for Richmond, the longest in program history.
Fordham will be the eight seed in next week's A10 Tournament and will face top seed Saint Louis in the quarterfinals.
