NORFOLK, Va. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team opened up its 2017 spring season against perennial NCAA Tournament contender and in-state rival Old Dominion on Sunday morning.
Despite a great effort, the Spiders dropped a tough 6-1 decision to the Monarchs.
“ODU's an extremely talented team. I was happy with the way we played and competed. We had good energy and I thought all of our guys really battled,” Head Coach Ben Johnson said.
The Spiders got the first point of the day when seniors Alexandre Felisa and Jacob Dunbar grabbed a 6-3 win at the top doubles spot, followed by Caleb Troy and Jonathan Quenard's 6-3 victory to take the doubles point.
Old Dominion bounced back with victories on all six singles courts to claim the win.
Richmond returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they host the Bison of Bucknell at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
