CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
Despite dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 1 Virginia Wednesday evening, Richmond picked up a point at No. 1 singles in Sebastien Fauchet's win over a nationally-ranked Cavalier.
Fauchet downed #102 Philippe Oudshoorn of UVA 6-2, 7-6 (3) to pick up Richmond's only point. Fauchet was the A-10 Player of the Week two weeks ago for his spotless play on the season thus far.
"This was a great opportunity for our guys," said head coach Billy Boykin. "Virginia is the number one ranked team in the country and they have a bevy of talented and experienced players. It was a great learning experience for our young team. We competed hard and displayed some good tennis as well. I'm especially proud of freshman Sebastien Fauchet for winning at the top spot. He's been playing terrific tennis all year long and just keeps getting better. This marks his first win over a nationally ranked opponent in singles play. He's been working extremely hard and it definitely showed out there today. He played the big points so well. We really enjoyed this experience."
Richmond returns to action next Thursday when it hosts James Madison at 2:30 p.m.
