UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's tennis team continued its winning ways into Saturday's match with UNC Greensboro on the University of Richmond campus, as it captured its second-straight win in just as many days. Doug Banker led the Spiders with a win at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles to help the Spiders to victory over the Spartans, as they improved to 9-10.
Although the Matt Stillwagon/Sami Belakhlef duo was unable to pull through for a No. 1 doubles win, Banker and Brett Waikart paired up at No. 2 for an 8-5 victory, while Chris Louis and Michael Sommer paired up at No. 3 to pull through with a hard-earned 9-8 win to give the Spiders a 1-0 advantage going into singles action.
Banker took a big win at No. 1 singles over UNC-G's Ladoucer, while teammate Belakhlef won at No. 3 over the Spartans' Conchar. Louis and Waikart also came up with big wins at No. 4 and 6 singles, while Stillwagon and Sommer fell at No. 2 and No. 5 singles as the Spiders took a 4-2 advantage in singles play, ending the match 5-2.
The Spiders will return to action tomorrow with a home match with Bucknell University. Originally scheduled for 10:00 a.m., the match will be played at noon instead.
