WASHINGTON, DC - The University of Richmond men's tennis team defeated #68 American University, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Reeves Court. The Spiders, recording their first win this season over a ranked opponent, improve to 10-10 on the year.
Richmond opened the afternoon with a sweep in doubles matches to earn the duos point. David Donn (East Longmeadow, Mass.) split the first sets (0-6, 7-6) but took the third set 6-1 to earn the victory at the Number 1 slot. Niki Doll (Heidelburg, Germany) won easily in straight sets at the Number 2 position. The Spiders lost at the Numbers 3, 4 and 5 positions but Jeppy Moss (Fredericksburg, Md.) came back to win the second two sets and earn the point at the Number 6 spot after falling in the first set.
Richmond hosts Hampton University this afternoon at the UR Tennis Complex at 2:30 p.m.
