Spiders Stymie Navy, 5-2 In Men's Tennis Action

RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's tennis team claimed four of six singles matches and won the doubles point to post a 5-2 victory over Navy in men's tennis action today at UR Tennis Complex.
Richmond swept the three doubles matches and posted victories at the bottom three singles spots to win its fourth consecutive match. At four singles, Spider junior Todd Parker (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) notched a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 victory over Midshipman sophomore Heath Marshall. In addition, senior Mark Scordo (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex) defeated Navy freshman Ryan Osgood at five singles (6-3, 6-0), while sophomore Dan Scrafford (Centreville, Va./Centreville) bested freshman Jim Shaughnessy at the six position, 6-2, 7-5. The Spiders also registered a victory at two singles as newcomer Niki Doll (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg Gymnasium) was a straight sets victor over Navy sophomore Chris McGrath, 7-5, 6-1. The Midshipmen netted victories at the top singles spot as senior Ben Salomon bested senior Rob Flader (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), 6-4, 6-3. Also, at three singles sophomore Cameron Lickle came away with a three-set win over Spider freshman David Donn (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow), 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles action, Flader and Parker combined to defeat Luckle and McGrath at the top position, 8-5. Doll and Scordo teamed to best Marshall and Osgood, 8-5 at two doubles. At three doubles, Donn and Scrafford defeated Shaughnessy and Navy sophomore Ryan Waguespack, 8-2.
Richmond (7-5, 0-2 Colonial Athletic Association) returns to action on Saturday, March 24, hosting The College of William & Mary at 3 p.m.
