Richmond Tops Fordham, 2-0 In Women's Soccer

BRONX, N.Y.- The University of Richmond posted its fifth straight Atlantic 10 conference victory on Friday afternoon, besting the Fordham Rams, 2-0 in a game played in Bronx, N.Y. The Spiders improve to 6-6-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, Richmond took the lead in the 48th minute when senior Meredith Johnson (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) sent a pass to sophomore Molly Rettig (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) who scored from six yards out, a shot into the lower right corner. The Spiders would net their second score of the game less than two minutes later when sophomore back Edda Gardarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) delivered a laser shot from 18 yards out into the middle of the net, her third goal of the year.
The Spiders continue Atlantic 10 play on Sunday traveling to Philadelphia to face La Salle in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
