Senior Day Win Gives Soccer First Unbeaten Non-Conference Season

RICHMOND, Va. — Morgane Zinn recorded a goal and two assists as Richmond defeated Howard 4-1 Sunday at President's Field at River Road, completing the first unbeaten non-conference season in program history and extending its program-record unbeaten streak to 11 games dating back to last year.

The Spiders finished non-conference play 5-0-3. Richmond's eight-game streak without a loss this season equals the longest single-season unbeaten streak in program history, matching a 7-0-1 run put together in October 2011. The win was Richmond's third straight, giving UR its longest winning streak since September 2021. Richmond also exceeded its win total from all of last season when UR finished 4-7-7.

Howard generated the better of the early chances, forcing Veronica Rrapi to make back-to-back saves in the 28th minute, but Richmond broke through shortly after. Zinn fired a right-footed half volley into the top of the net from the 18 yards out in the 30th minute for her team-leading fourth goal of the season, giving the Spiders a 1-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later, Sophia Jurado doubled the advantage. Zinn flicked a free kick by Julia Lishia to a streaking Jurado, who slotted home her first career goal with her right foot. Jurado's goal sent the Spiders into halftime with a 2-0 lead despite Howard holding a 7-5 advantage in shots. Rrapi made four saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Howard pulled within one when Nadia Bolden converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute, but Richmond answered just over two minutes later, again off a set piece. A pair of Spiders slid away from the ball just before Kingsley Hughes blasted a right-footed shot past the Bison goalkeeper from just outside the 18-yard box. It was Hughes' second goal of the season.

Freshman Camden Henard added the final goal in the 78th minute, scoring the first goal of her career off after she got on the long end of a cross from fellow freshman Christina Stamoulacatos. Zinn registered an assist on the goal as well, finishing the afternoon with four points, matching a career high. Stamoulacatos has now recorded a point in three consecutive games after scoring the game-winner at Radford and assisting on Zinn's winner at VMI.

The teams finished even with 14 shots apiece, while Richmond held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. The Spiders generated nine of their 14 shots after halftime. Rrapi stopped all four shots on goal she faced in the first half before Isabel Seifert made two saves over the final 45 minutes.

UR's four seniors — Cameryn Sicard, Gwen Howell, Sydney Bortz, and Alex Reigle — were honored in a pregame ceremony.

Richmond will open Atlantic 10 play next Sunday at George Washington, with the game kickoff at 1 PM on ESPN Plus.
