Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season with a Strong Performance at Tribe Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team got the fall 2026 season underway over the weekend at the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary. The squad had a strong showing in both singles and doubles action.
Abby Lee swept her white singles division matches. Lee started off with a 6-3, 2-6, (10-6) decision over ODU's Mya Byrd, picked up a come-from-behind win over Varsha Vedula (Penn) 5-7, 6-2 (10-4) and sealed the 6-4, 6-4 victory over Sasha Motlagh (Penn).
In the green singles draw, Victoria Mann and Sophia Barbulescu both went 1-2 and both collected wins over Randy Rakotarilala. Mann collected a 6-1, 6-3 win while Barbulescu won 6-0, 6-1.
In the gold singles Beatrice Guerra collected her first win of the fall over Sara Baric (NCC), 6-4, 6-0 before dropping a close second match to Lara Stojanovski (Penn) 7-5, 2-6 (10-4). After a first-round bye, Lucy Webber dropped a close match to ODU's Uladzislava Manzhos 6-4, 6-3.
Maddy Kroupetski opened her gray single division with wins over Angelina Joao (MS) 6-1, 6-1 and Valentian De Aquino (NCC) 6-1, 6-0. She dropped her third match to William & Mary's Nickole Lukesova (WM) 6-4, 6-4.
In the red singles division, both Daniela O'Leary and Lainey O'Neil won both of their matches. O'Leary picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gabriela Mejia Arenas (NCC) and Julia Viesi (WM). O'Neil defeated Parker Debnam (WM) 6-2, 7-6 (1) and Roua Limem (MS) 3-6, 6-1 (10-7).
In coastal doubles action Lainey O'Neil and Victoria Mann went 12-1 on the day. They started with a 6-2 win over Rakotoarilala/Palencia (NCC) before dropping a 6-1 decision to Manzhos/Byrd (ODU). The pair rallied to defeat Motlagh/Vedula (PENN) 6-4 to finish the day.
In griffin doubles action, Kroupetski/O'Leary also went 2-1 paired up, first collecting a 6-4 win over Serra/Mihaljevic (MS) before dropping a tough 7-5 decision to Larsson/Chandana (WM). The duo finished with a decisive 6-0 win over Lukesova/Debnam (WM).
Also in the griffin doubles division, Abby Lee and Beatrice Guerra dropped both of their matches, first 6-3 to Lukesova/Debnam (WM) and a 6-4 decision to Tkachenko/Tomova (PENN).
Richmond also got in some extra singles matches. Webber dropped a tough battle 6-7(7) 6-4 (10-4) to Bergaoui (MS) while O'Leary collected a 6-2, 6-4 win over Debham (WM). Guerra out-lasted Zottili (NCC) 6-3, 5-7 (11-9) as O'Neil defeated Joao 6-2, 6-1.
